Mission and Vision

Mission

The Monoamine Oxidase Deficiency Foundation is dedicated to improving the understanding, diagnosis, and treatment of Monoamine Oxidase (MAO) Deficiencies. These rare conditions can cause developmental delays, intellectual disabilities, impulsive aggression, and autism-like behaviors, deeply affecting individuals and their families. Our mission is to raise awareness and support research to address these life-altering challenges.

We focus on bringing together experts from different fields to combine scientific research, medical care, and patient advocacy, all working toward the same goal: creating effective, FDA-approved treatments. We are exploring promising approaches such as gene replacement therapy, advanced brain research, repurposing existing drugs, dietary changes, and other innovative strategies to find a cure for MAO A and MAO A/B deficiencies.

By collaborating with experts around the world, we aim to unlock the mysteries of these conditions and bring hope and solutions to those affected.

Vision

Our vision is a world where monoamine oxidase deficiencies are fully understood, effectively managed, and cured. We envision a future where every individual affected by these disorders has access to accurate diagnoses, comprehensive care, and innovative treatments that enhance their quality of life. Through the relentless pursuit of knowledge and the cultivation of a robust, inclusive community of researchers, clinicians, patients, and families, we aim to transform the landscape of the care for this neurodevelopmental disorder. The foundation aspires to be a beacon of hope and a catalyst for change, ensuring that no one affected by monoamine oxidase deficiencies is left without support or solutions.
